Another Place was truly picturesque set amongst Ullswater Lake in the beautiful Lake District. With 40 unique rooms and most with the luxury view it really was idyllic. We stayed last minute in July after our holiday to Mallorca got cancelled and we were glad it was in the end with the hot weather, combined with surroundings that you can't believe are in the UK!
Location 9/10: for us, we loved this location; having only visited the Lake District for the first time last year (staying at the dreamy Gilpin Hotel which I will be reviewing in the not too distant future!) this was a much less touristy area and felt like we had escaped the busyness of the Lake Windermere area. We did some wonderful hikes recommended by the staff that took us to Pooley Bridge, Penrith which had quaint shops and plenty of cafes and pubs to choose from and on recommendation we ate at The Secret Garden. It was at the back of a newsagents and opened up to outdoor seating by the water! It was a great location to explore the rest of the Lake District, or like us you could do a couple of nights here and then move on to your next location in the Lakes.
Room 8/10: we booked a 'Better Room' which was in the newer part of the hotel. It was large, bright and perfect for our Summer staycation with patio doors that opened out to the lake view. We had a super kingsize bed which was like sleeping in a cloud. We particularly loved the Land & Water toiletries and purchased some before leaving! It definitely felt like the perfect room for Summer, I don’t think I would have felt cosy enough if it was in Winter but they have other types of rooms to choose from! My only other small qualm was that people could walk past the patio so you had to have the curtains closed for privacy!
Dining 8/10: we had pre-booked The Living Space which was there casual dining option however on arrival we decided to change to the Rampsbeck restaurant as it looked so lovely inside and the menu looked amazing! We were not disappointed, it was 3 courses for £43 and we thought it was really good value for money as the food and service was incredible. The only downside for us was the breakfast, for the standards of the rest of the hotel we felt it was average and the hot food was all buffet which we don't personally like especially when it is a hotel of this calibre!
Value for money 9/10: our room was £330 per night which included breakfast. You also had access to their picturesque swimming pool, go in the lake when you wished and it was an ideal location for exploring the lakes. I do think for the room quality and hotel amenities provided it was worth the cost. The only thing for us that let it down was the breakfast.
Extras: before you stay you can download their app to book restaurant reservations, activities such as wild swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking. You can also book swimming pool slots which we enjoyed as it meant it was quieter and you could avoid family slots which we did and that view whilst swimming was something else! It is both family and dog friendly. Spa treatments were also available to book!
THE GETAWAY GUIDE FEELING 8/10: ok so the view and location on the lake cannot be beaten, it really was beautiful. Only thing for me was we went during school holidays, it was busy with lots of families which didn’t ruin our experience at all but next time we would book outside of those times so it was slightly quieter! It definitely felt like a Summer hotel, I am not sure how cosy I would feel in winter! However, we would absolutely book again, plus they are currently building new rooms and shepherd huts so I would love to go and see what these are like! If you want somewhere unique to explore the Lake District right on a lake, look no further and go to Another Place!
